Student Faces Consequences For Having Father’s Knife in his Car at School

To any adult, using or carrying a knife is part of daily life. Most people never think twice about using a knife for activities like opening packages or even fishing.

But, as 18-year-old honor student David Duren-Sanner learned, mixing a knife and school can turn your whole life upside down.

A few weeks ago, David’s car was selected for a random search (which itself seems pretty outrageous), and Tennessee police found a small knife in the car.

The kicker of the whole thing was that the knife wasn’t even his. His father, a fisherman, had recently given him his car and accidentally left the knife in it. Needless to say, school officials did not buy the excuse and immediately suspended David for 10 days.

Knife of the Week: SOG Vulcan

The legend of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, has him manufacturing the finest steel weaponry for his fellow gods and heroes with an emphasis on craftsmanship, which is why Vulcan makes such an apt name for this week’s Badass Knife of the Week.

New 2014 Condor Tool & Knife Products

We’re still slowly but surely making our way through the new knives of 2014 and we continue with new products from Condor Tool and Knife. The relatively new company has already has a wide assortment of machetes, axes, knives and survival tools to pick from, but everyone agrees that this year’s lineup is fantastic.

Here are the new products from Condor Tool & Knife.

Bombus

The Bombus is a nice fixed blade knife with an overall length of 5 inches and a 1075 high carbon steel black finish blade. The knife comes with a Kydex sheath and chain, so it can be carried around the neck.

Crotalus

The Crotalus is a longer fixed blade knife that’s 10 and 3/4 inches overall. Like the Bombus, it features a Micarta handle, 1075 high carbon steel and comes with a Kydex sheath.

There are thousands of knife designs out there, most of them bringing something special or unique to the table that you might not know of.

Thus, we bring you the “Badass Knife of the Week.”

Every week, we’ll highlight one knife that’s earned the right to be called badass. Basically, we’ll offer you a little eye candy to help break up the monotony of the week.

My TigheThe first Badass Knife of the Week is the My Tighe from CRKT. The My Tighe, based on the award-winning design of custom knifemaker Brian Tighe (pronounced “Tie”), is one unique frame-lock folder.

With a high-hollow grind and deep belly with recurve, the 3.625-inch stainless steel blade boasts a high satin finish that leaves passers-by drooling with envy.

One of the best assets on a knife overflowing with features is CRKT’s patented OutBurst assisted opening mechanism. Fewer things are more important than being able to deploy your knife and the blade on the My Tighe engages with the push of its dual ramped thumb studs.

New 2014 Knives from Zero Tolerance

Zero Tolerance, a perennial winner of the Knife of the Year award from BLADE Magazine, is releasing six new products this year.

Along with the knives below, Zero Tolerance added a few modifications to other models, including a BlackWash finish to the 0560, 0350 and 0300 and a carbon fiber handle to the 0770.

ZT 0102

The first product we’re showing you (based on the model number) is the ZT 0102, which is Zero Tolerance’s introduction to the tactical tomahawk. It has an overall length of 16 inches and a handle with G-10 scales. It boasts Vanadis 4 extra powdered steel for durability and protection. The back spike is great for penetration and the pommel can be used as a pry bar.

ZT 0180

Based on Rick Hinderer’s Fieldtac, this tough fixed blade is lighter and smaller with a Vanadis 4 extra powdered steel blade. The blade is 9.2 inches overall with a 4.2-inch blade.

Knife Art: Jay Fisher’s Squid Knife Sculpture

On this blog, we’ve taken a look at a lot of bizarre or strange-looking knives, from knives that look like sharks to pocket knives that won’t fit in your pocket. To be fair, the knife we’re about to show you is a piece of art and may very well be the greatest piece of knife art out there.

Behold the Pacifica by Jay Fisher.

Let me reiterate. This is a piece of art and is not necessarily made to be used for anything other than showcasing. Looking at it through that lens allows you to admire the artwork, execution and design of this amazing knife sculpture.

The piece was made by Jay Fisher, a fantastic custom knifemaker who’s made great functional knives like this one and this one. But he’s very proud of this creation and even has a whole page on his site dedicated to the Pacifica.

New 2014 Products from Buck Knives

Last week, we took a look at the new knives being released this year by CRKT, but this week, we’re looking at the new Buck knives of 2014.

Buck has always been a reliable name in the knife industry because they never rest on their laurels (and lord knows they can). Although Buck Knives didn’t do anything drastic this year, the new products are broadening their line of knives. In addition to the items below, there will be a few additions, redesigns and the commemorative edition of the 110 we told you about two weeks ago.

726 Mini SpitFire

The original SpitFire was introduced last year with enough success to prompt a smaller version for this year. The new lockback folder weighs 2.1 oz, as opposed to the original SpitFire’s weight of 3.2 oz. The anodized aluminum handle of the sleek knife comes in the three colors above. Like the original version, the Mini SpitFire’s blade is made of 420HC steel.

183 Alpha Crosslock

The Alpha Crosslock is not a new knife per se, but it underwent a drastic enough redesign to warrant a mention here. This knife has a spear point blade and saw blade with integrated gut hook, which makes it great for hunting. The alterations made to the Alpha Crosslock involve a more durable locking mechanism and more control when conditions are wet (since the original had aluminum grips). Available in orange and green.

New 2014 Products from CRKT

With the 2014 SHOT Show officially over, most of the manufacturers have released the brand new knives and gear you’ll see in the coming months.

There are a ton of new products, including many that will make you say this, but instead of heaping them all on you at once, we thought it’d be better to soak things in a bit.

In the next few weeks, we’ll be bring you new products from the various brands of knives we carry.

To kick things off, we’re taking a look at the slew of new products from CRKT.

Buy Tighe

Buy-Tigh

Way back in 2012, the Buy Tighe won the BLADE Show award for Most Innovative Design, and even though it’s taken awhile to see production, this beauty is well worth the wait. CRKT is offering the knife for its 20th anniversary (you’ll notice a 20 on the blade). Only 500 of these knives will be made.

Obake

We teased the Obake, which is designed by Lucas Burnley, a little while back, but now we have some more info on it. The knife is a throwback to a Japanese Kwaiken design and features an acid-etched titanium nitride finish.
