The much anticipated Schrade SCHF51 Frontier and SCHF52 Frontier are now available at Knife Depot.

So why are these two models so coveted?

Let’s break it down a bit. The SCHF51 and SCHF52 are updates on the old SCHF36 and SCHF37, which were already highly respected knives. In fact, the SCHF36 received the Blade Magazine People’s Choice of the Yeard award in 2015. Except for a few minor quibbles, those two survival fixed blades were widely hailed as great knives for any outdoorsman.

The SCHF51 and SCHF52 take things to the next level.

Taylor Brands LLC took all the criticisms and wants from reviewers and customers and made great knives even better. Let’s start with some of the specs.

Here’s the SCHF51.

The knife has the same 5.05-inch drop point blade as the SCHF36. The major change comes in the coating. Many complained that the coating was way too thick and caused some drag when batoning. Taylor Brands took the criticisms to heart and came back with a better, Teflon-like coating that’s thinner. With the new coating, the 1095 carbon steel blade is better protected and more visually appealing.

On Discovery Channel’s show “Naked and Afraid,” survivalist EJ “Skullcrusher” Snyder survived in the wilderness (without any clothes, of course) on nothing but his (and his partner’s) wit. He did this in two intense stints on the show: one on the plains of Tanzania’s Serengeti and another in the Amazonian rainforest.

Snyder is more than just a dude on a reality show; he trained in the Army Survival School and became obsessed with all aspects of survival. Now, the Gulf War veteran has teamed up with TOPS Knives to bring Skullcrusher’s X-Treme Blade (SXB).

Here’s a description of the SXB from TOPS:

Yeah, buddy! As you can tell from the description (and several exclamation points), TOPS is pretty enthusiastic about this knife. It’s not unwarranted, though. The knife looks thoroughly badass.

When you’re on the side of a cliff a couple thousand feet above the ground, nothing is more important than a strong knife… well, maybe a secure foothold is a little more important but a solid knife is still vital.

That’s why CRKT is releasing an array of new knives optimized for hard-core climbers: the Bivy, Niad, and Hyphenate.

Because CRKT wanted to do things the right way, the company enlisted the help of someone who knows a thing or two about climbing—Hans Florine.

Pretty much all of Florine’s accomplishments leave me with sweaty palms, but his ultimate claim to fame is breaking the record for speed climbing the Nose route on El Capitan in Yosemite. Florine ascended 2,900 vertical feet in 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 46 seconds.

Schrade SCHF45 Leroy Full Tang Bowie

The first knife we have available is a doozy. The SCHF45 is a massive Bowie-style chopper that’s nearly 16.5 inches long with a hefty 10.35-inch blade. A video testing the prototype shows just what this beast can do.

Schrade SCHA9M Mini Landshark

Next up is the Mini Landshark. The larger iteration of the Landshark proved popular, and this mini version makes it a viable EDC option that’s legal to carry in most places. The knife itself has killer angles and an eye-catching design. The blade is 2.16 inches and uses the M.A.G.I.C. assisted opener.

Update: We originally wrote this post way back in January, but CRKT recently unveiled a few more 2015 mid-year years at the BLADE Show in Atlanta. You can find the new ones at the bottom.

It’s January and you know what that means… it’s time to take a look at the new knives coming your way. The SHOT Show (where companies are showcasing new knives) is currently underway, but many companies have already released the new catalogs.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be taking a look at the new knives across various brands. We’re kicking things off with the 22 new knives from CRKT.

BT-70 (Designed by Bob Terzuola)

If you’re not familiar with Bob Terzuola, the new BT-70 is the perfect way to get acquainted. Terzuola is one of the fathers of tactical knives and this collector’s piece showcases his feel for the tactical folder. It has a stonewash finish, G-10 handle scales with his dragon logo, and a blade length of 4.03 inches.

Argus Black

The Argus is a spring-assisted knife with the Outburst assisted opening mechanism. Designed by Matthew Lerch, the Argus Black has an aluminum handle and a 3.55-inch blade with black corrosion resistant coating.

No Time Off

Designed by Flavio Ikoma, the No Time Off is a burly folder that’s aimed at heavy-duty tasks. It has a waffle iron traction grip handle and a 2.99-inch blade that locks into place using the Ikoma Locking System.

Saker

The Saker is an interesting bushcraft knife by Abe Elias, with its scandi grind and 1075 carbon steel blade that’s about 4.5 inches. The handle is made from Walnut.

G.S.D. (Get S**t Done)

With a name like G.S.D. (which stands for Get S**t Done), you’d better expect a knife that’s tough, reliable, and functional. Check, check, and check. It has a classic industrial look and can handle heavy-duty tasks.

Hunt’N Fisch

We’re starting to get to the puns. The Hunt’N Fisch plays off designer Larry Fischer’s name and is a fixed blade hunting knife with tons of jimping and some interesting grooves on the spine.

It’s designed to be an all-around hunting and fishing knife with a blade of 2.99 inches made of 8Cr13MoV steel. It has G-10 scales on the handle.

SOG Specialty Knives isn’t the only maker of a hybrid flashlight and knife.

The new LK375 Light Knife was recently announced by COAST Products and can be seen at the National Hardware Show between May 5 and May 7, according to a press release at Ammoland.

COAST is known for making an array of relatively inexpensive tactical folders as well as flashlights. In their latest product, they combine the two tools into one.

Yes, we’re already in April, but the sheer amount of new knives this year means we’re still showcasing them on the blog. The good news is that most of these knives are now on the market, so you don’t have to wait.

This week, we’re looking at the array of new products from SOG Specialty Knives.

SOG Fillet

First up are two new fillet knives: a 6-inch fillet and a 7.5-inch fillet. The steel is 5Cr15MoV. They come with hard-molded nylon sheaths.

SOG Zoom

The Zoom series is a new family of knives that are designed to be lightweight folders with assisted opening. They have AUS-8 steel and anodized aluminum handles. The regular version has a blade length of 3.6 inches while the Zoom Mini has a blade length of 3.15 inches.

Some of the versions have Tanto points and/or black TiNi coating on the blade. Here’s a look at each iteration.

SOG Toothlock

Another new family is the Toothpick family. As of right now, the two iterations feature either a satin finish or black TiNi finish on the partially serrated blade. The blade length is 3.1 inches and the steel is made from quality San Mai VG-10 steel. It uses a new locking mechanism from SOG.

SOG Instinct

Next is the SOG Instinct. The most basic version is a compact fixed blade without any handle scales. The overall length is 5.9 inches, and the whole knife has a satin finish. Since it’s meant to offer multiple carry options, there’s a smaller version and two with G10 handles.

Tired of zombie-centric products and media? Neither are we.

The latest knife to get a makeover for the zombie apocalypse is the Commander from Emerson Knives.

To be clear, the original Commander is a truly badass knife. Winner of the Best Overall Knife of the Year at the blade show, the knife is battle-tested and designed with performance in mind. The Zombie Commander is essentially the same, except for a few minor changes.

The Zombie Commander comes in two versions: Zombie Green and Midnight Zombie.

Both knives are available for a limited run and will feature the Zombie Eradication Team stamp on the blade. Just like the original Commander, the knife boasts Emerson’s patented wave opener on the 3.75-inch blade made from 154CM stainless steel.

Yes, we’re deep into the year, but that’s not going to stop us from showing you some of the new knives of 2015. We’re continuing with new products from Condor Tool & Knife.

There’s not as a robust offering of new products as some of the other brands, but the 2015 products from Condor TK are definitely worth a look.

Final Frontier

We’re kicking things off with the Final Frontier. This is a nice fixed blade with a 4-inch blade that has a Scandi grind. The blade itself has epoxy black powder coating. Hollow rivets hold together the ergonomic handle made of Micarta. At the butt of the knife is a smashing pommel.

It comes with a sheath.

Primitive Bush Knife (Matt Graham edition)

The Primitive Bush Knife is a collaboration between Condor TK and survivalist Matt Graham. Using his experiences living off the land, Graham designed this knife for outdoor adventures. Its 8-inch blade is made of 420HC steel.

It has a hardwood handle and comes with an interesting handcrafted leather sheath that’s supposedly more like a pouch.

Mini Duku Parang Machete

Next up are the two Mini Duku Parang Machetes. Both machetes feature blades made of 1075 high carbon steel with a natural finish and boast hardwood handles.
