New 2015 SOG Specialty Knives

Yes, we’re already in April, but the sheer amount of new knives this year means we’re still showcasing them on the blog. The good news is that most of these knives are now on the market, so you don’t have to wait.

This week, we’re looking at the array of new products from SOG Specialty Knives.

SOG Fillet

First up are two new fillet knives: a 6-inch fillet and a 7.5-inch fillet. The steel is 5Cr15MoV. They come with hard-molded nylon sheaths.

SOG Zoom

The Zoom series is a new family of knives that are designed to be lightweight folders with assisted opening. They have AUS-8 steel and anodized aluminum handles. The regular version has a blade length of 3.6 inches while the Zoom Mini has a blade length of 3.15 inches.

Some of the versions have Tanto points and/or black TiNi coating on the blade. Here’s a look at each iteration.

SOG Toothlock

Another new family is the Toothpick family. As of right now, the two iterations feature either a satin finish or black TiNi finish on the partially serrated blade. The blade length is 3.1 inches and the steel is made from quality San Mai VG-10 steel. It uses a new locking mechanism from SOG.

SOG Instinct

Next is the SOG Instinct. The most basic version is a compact fixed blade without any handle scales. The overall length is 5.9 inches, and the whole knife has a satin finish. Since it’s meant to offer multiple carry options, there’s a smaller version and two with G10 handles.

It’s praised for its versatility.

BladeLight Folder Mini

The awesome BladeLight Folder gets two smaller versions. The blade on these is only 3 inches long, but it packs some super bright LEDs on either side. It’s suitable for use near water and makes a nice camping knife. There’s a satin and black version of the mini.

SOG Hawks

We’re lumping four new hawks under this category, but you can read more about each below.

Survival Hawk

This is a lightweight hawk that’s packed with features like a firestarter rod in the handle, nail puller, hammering head, reflective wrapped handle, and more. Its overall length is 12.1 inches.

Throwing Hawks

This is a three-pack of throwing hawks. Each is made of one piece of steel and feature paracord-wrapped handles. They’re specifically designed for throwing.

Voodoo Hawk Mini – Satin

These two are miniature versions of the Voodoo Hawk. They’re smaller and lighter but keep the same features, like a piercing spike, metal pommel cap, and more.

Voodoo Hawk Mini – Black

This version has a hard cased black coating.

Fielder Assisted

The original Fielder has a classic look and feel, but the Fielder Assisted feels a bit more modern. It has G10 slabs against matte aluminum bolsters. The main difference is the assisted-opening mechanism. The blade on the standard Fielder Assisted is 3.5 inches while it’s only 2.75 inches on the mini.

PowerLock Traveler

The PowerLock Traveler is a multitool with a flip opening and locking mechanisms to give it some strength. The Traveler part of the name is because it’s been approved for carry-on according to regulations by the TSA. It comes in a satin and black version.

These throwing knives have an overall length of 10 inches with a blade length of 4.4 inches. They have a hard-cased black finish and are highly scratch resistant.

SwitchPlier 2.0

Finally, there’s the SwitchPlier 2.0. This is billed as a cross between a switchblade and pliers. You use a button to engage the pliers for quick, one-handed access. It also has a variety of other tools you’d normally find on a multitool.
