10 Video Game Swords You Can Actually Buy

You’re never too old for video games… or at least that’s what I tell myself. Video games allow you to explore worlds where the laws of physics need not apply, worlds where the impossible becomes possible, worlds that make you reconsider your own moral compass.

But, of course, one of the best aspects of games is the variety of weapons game designers envision. Because swords in video games are often impractical but thoroughly impressive, we decided to compile a list of video game swords you can own in real life.

Many places, including the folks over at Man At Arms, have recreated some of the best video game swords, but the ones we’re highlighting are those you can actually buy for a reasonable amount.

1. Sword of Altair – Assassin’s Creed

Over the eight or so year’s since the very first Assassin’s Creed came out, the series has spawned a whopping nine games as well as a ton of supporting games. One of the assassin’s the game explores is Altair Ibn-La-Ahad, and this is the sword he wields. According to the game’s Wiki page about the sword, it features cross guards shaped like an eagle’s wings with a pommel in the shape of an eagle’s head.

This is an excellent replica of the sword, coming in at 31 inches in length with a 440 stainless steel blade. The sword boasts some nice flourishes that make it worthy of any collector or cosplayer.

2. Rebellion – Devil May Cry

Devil May Cry was never a game on my radar. I nearly played the reboot, but my subscription to PS Plus expired. While I don’t have any special insight to share about the game, I do appreciate the iconic sword of Dante, the protagonist of the game. The large sword—dubbed the Rebellion—is a claymore with magical qualities.

CRKT Shakaulu – Badass Knife of the Week

One of the best attributes of Ken Onion, the award-winning and highly respected knifemaker, is his fearlessness in trying new things and experimenting with designs. His quest for innovation and functionality is never more evident than in the unique CRKT Shakaulu.

This unusual hunting knife is the combination of two tools: the cleaver and the ulu. The ulu is an all-purpose knife traditionally used by the indigenous people of Alaska for everything from skinning animals to trimming blocks of ice for igloos.

Onion adapted the ulu to become the ultimate hunting knife for big game. The 9.5-inch knife features a small gut hook, a curved skinning edge, and a design that allows for effortless cleaving.

On Discovery Channel’s show “Naked and Afraid,” survivalist EJ “Skullcrusher” Snyder survived in the wilderness (without any clothes, of course) on nothing but his (and his partner’s) wit. He did this in two intense stints on the show: one on the plains of Tanzania’s Serengeti and another in the Amazonian rainforest.

Snyder is more than just a dude on a reality show; he trained in the Army Survival School and became obsessed with all aspects of survival. Now, the Gulf War veteran has teamed up with TOPS Knives to bring Skullcrusher’s X-Treme Blade (SXB).

Here’s a description of the SXB from TOPS:

“Skullcrusher’s Xtreme Blade” (SXB) was designed for the Warrior Survivalist to aid in their survival not only in the wild, but on the battlefield as well. Xtreme Situations require an Xtreme Blade, and the SXB meets that demand and then some! Why play in the wild when you can DOMINATE it!!!

Yeah, buddy! As you can tell from the description (and several exclamation points), TOPS is pretty enthusiastic about this knife. It’s not unwarranted, though. The knife looks thoroughly badass.

Boker Plus Griploc – Badass Knife of the Week

For a tool that’s millions of years old, you’d think that all the innovations and idiosyncrasies have been explored by now. But our latest Badass Knife of the Week proves that the brightest minds are still coming up with new ideas and inventions that have never been done.

The Boker Plus Griploc is an elegant folder that offers a unique and creative way to engage and disengage the blade.

The 3.5-inch blade opens up quickly and smoothly with a flipper near the top of the handle like many other pocket knives. To many, it’s a badge of honor. To some, it’s a nuisance. To others, it’s not even a problem.

Pocket knives have been known to accentuate outfits, but they’ve also been known to destroy clothing.

Yes, I’m talking about that old problem in which a knife’s clip shreds the top of your pocket.

Sure, the picture is all in good fun, but anyone who carries a knife on a regular basis will know that over time, a clip may ruin a pants pocket.

If you’ve encountered this problem or want to avoid this problem, here are some things you can do.

Bend the clip

One reason a pocket may become destroyed is due to the fact that the clip is way too tight. Certain manufacturers make clips pretty tight to make it a little more difficult for others to slip it out of your pocket without you knowing.

I recently started to take notice of the simple fact that people age, that the older we get the more we begin to lose. For some, the body goes first—maybe we start packing on a few more pounds than what we had in high school. For others, the mind begins to fade—remembering faces and facts isn’t quite as easy as it was when we were kids. Our vitality, health, and creativity slowly start to drift away from our once youthful selves.

But with age also comes a whole new host of feelings that our younger and sometimes dumber selves can’t quite tap into yet. Feelings like tradition, nostalgia, and an understanding of just how important the little things in life can be. The CRKT Squid is a knife that single-handedly channeled those emotions in me and somehow played time machine like a small piece of childhood memorabilia.

First Look

Right off the bat the CRKT Squid has a great overall look to it. A look that is simple and understated yet still grabs your attention with both hands. This amazing design comes from the mind of Lucas Burnley, a very popular up-and-coming knife maker with an almost cult-like following for what he has done in the knife community. The Squid has been one of his custom designs for a long time, but with his work in such high demand, getting your hands on one was almost impossible… until now.

The great thing about Burnley partnering up with a production knife company is that we the consumers get to experience knives that we otherwise never would due to budget, materials, or availability. With this partnership, we now get a glimpse into what owning a custom design feels like. Besides the Squid, CRKT and Lucas are making other knives, which can be a win-win situation for both parties if done right.

There’s a danger lurking behind one of the most mundane things known to man. It’s in malls and airports around the country. Yes, it’s the escalator.

You might not think twice about stepping onto those convenient steel steps as they guide you from one floor to the next, but the escalator has been in the news quite a bit lately.

In July, a mother was killed after falling inside an escalator when the panel at the top gave way. A few days later, a stroller was trapped between a step and the platform. Fortunately, no one was injured. But that’s not the only danger escalators pose.

On Monday, Sept. 7, a woman took an escalator in the Forest Hills Station of the MBTA. She seemed a little drunk, a little tired, and was carrying too much. Unexpectedly her skirt became caught by the escalator.
