NoCry Cut-Resistant Gloves Review & Giveaway

NoCry Gloves

As someone who handles razor-sharp knives on a day-to-day basis, I’ve been cut on the rare occasion (nothing seriously mind you), so when the founder of NoCry Cut Resistant Gloves reached out for a review, I was intrigued.

They sent me three pairs to try out and here’s what I thought.

Purpose of Cut-resistant Gloves

If you’re a casual knife user, you might be wondering why anyone would need cut-resistant gloves. I thought the same until I met my wife. She’s a very competent and dexterous person, but when it comes to knives and food preparation, she’s a mess.

It started when she cut herself with a peeler a few times and grew worse after she sliced her finger chopping a sweet potato. Since then, she refuses to peel anything for fear of cutting herself. Her confidence is shot.

The NoCry Cut Resistant Gloves are the perfect solution for people like her. These gloves allow her to slice, dice, and peel without the fear of mixing blood and gore in with her famous homemade chili.

Aside from the typical use of holding items while cutting to increase confidence, NoCry Gloves also assist in a few other tasks. The folks at NoCry let me know that a large majority (around 80%) of people who bought the gloves use them in the kitchen. Ideal kitchen use for cut-resistant gloves is peeling, dicing, shucking oysters, grating cheese, or trying to cut a whole watermelon in 30 seconds or less.

Although I don’t have a mandoline slicer, many of the reviews on Amazon say that the gloves can also save a trip to the hospital.

The other 20% of users for these gloves are hunters and fishers. When you’re dealing with sharp knives in wet and slippery environments (filleting a carp or skinning a white-tailed deer), your hands become prone to slippage.

Initial Reaction to the NoCry Gloves

Enough background—let’s dive right in. The gloves arrived in a nondescript, resealable zippered plastic bag. Packed with the gloves were a proof-of-purchase slip and a print-out of some general instructions/care tips. You can tell NoCry is a fairly small operation from the packaging, and that’s not a bad thing.

The first knife we have available is a doozy. The SCHF45 is a massive Bowie-style chopper that’s nearly 16.5 inches long with a hefty 10.35-inch blade. A video testing the prototype shows just what this beast can do.

Schrade SCHA9M Mini Landshark

Next up is the Mini Landshark. The larger iteration of the Landshark proved popular, and this mini version makes it a viable EDC option that’s legal to carry in most places. The knife itself has killer angles and an eye-catching design. The blade is 2.16 inches and uses the M.A.G.I.C. assisted opener.

Watch This Guy Fail While Cutting a Watermelon with a Sword

Knives are important, lifesaving tools that everyone should know how to use. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

More often than not, we see people completely misusing knives, swords, and axes in ways that not only make you scratch your head but also fear for their (and bystander’s) lives.

To help demonstrate how people shouldn’t use knives, we’re starting a new series of posts called #knifefails. These videos or images may involve bodily harm and property damage, so they aren’t always for the faint of heart. What all these videos do have in common is a lack of respect of blades.

We already have some posts in our archives that demonstrate irresponsibility with knives (including one last week in which a cohost on Fox & Friends threw an axe at someone), so we may revisit those in the future.

We’re kicking off things with a mild, but undeniably stupid knife fail.

Watch ‘Fox & Friends’ Host Hit Someone With Flying Axe

CIJWaWzWIAAykhy

About a week and a half ago, a host on Fox & Friends hit someone with a flying axe… and on television!

Yes, you read that right.

While teasing an upcoming segment, host Pete Hegsworth chucked an axe at a pretty large wooden board with a bullseye. The axe went flying over the board and hit a drummer from West Point’s marching band.

Cold Steel Sues CRKT Over False Advertising

10_514487

We all know there’s little love between knife manufacturers. When you are trying to make a knife stronger, better,  and more interesting than a competitor, there’s bound to be tension and animosity.

But Cold Steel is taking it to the next level.

In a press release, Cold Steel announced that it’s suing CRKT over misleading marketing assertions. Cold Steel says CRKT’s claims that its various locking mechanisms—including LAWKS, AutoLAWKS, and L.B.S—can convert a folding knife into a “virtual fixed blade” is not only misleading customers into buying poorly performing knives but also causing losses to their business.

Here’s more from Cold Steel President Lynn C. Thompson: “Consumers are entitled to truthful information. They need to know what a knife can and can’t do. We are a nation of people who USE our knives. Responsible knife owners want to use their tools, and they should be given honest information about the performance, reliability and safety they should expect.”

logoSo what does Cold Steel want out of this lawsuit? The company is seeking an unspecified amount of money from damages caused by CRKT’s “blatantly false claims” and “dishonest tactics,” which will then be donated to Knife Rights. It also wants an injunction, treble damages, and attorneys’ fees.
