The Gerber 06 automatic folder has quickly risen through the ranks as one of the best switchblades for military and civilian carry. Unfortunately, knife laws in many states make it difficult to buy and carry automatic knives.
That’s where the latest Badass Knife of the Week comes in.
The Gerber 06 FAST is not just an assisted-opening version of the renowned 06 but also comes in at a significantly reduced price point. Despite lowering the cost of the knife, it retains the design that makes it so beloved.
The 3.8-inch blade features a partially serrated edge and a modified tanto point that offers extra versatility. The black-coated steel is 7Cr17MoV, a budget alloy that’s easy to sharpen and rust resistant.
Standing for Forward Action Spring Technology, the FAST assisted mechanism was developed by custom knifemaker Butch Vallotton and springs the blade open reliably with the push of the thumb stud.
Complementing the opening mechanism is a piston lock that keeps the knife engaged. To close it, push up on the lock release.
The robust handle is made from textured G-10. Not only does it fit the hand well but it keeps a grip in all types of environments. A striking pommel at the butt contains a lanyard hole, so you’re never unprepared.
A tip-up pocket clip allows for convenient carry.

I own this knife, and even though this version is not made in the US I have beat the living crap out of it and it still works just fine. It is a very durable knife.
