Whether you’re a collector or a casual knife user, it’s not always necessary to spend massive amounts of cash on a reliable pocket knife. That’s never been more evident than in our latest Badass Knife of the Week.
The Byrd Cara Cara 2 was named Best Buy of the Year at the 2015 Blade Show for its functional design and high-quality construction compared to the price.
This knife features a 3.75-inch blade made from very capable 8Cr13MoV stainless steel with an updated full-flat grind.
For those unfamiliar with the Byrd brand, it’s a subdivision of Spyderco, which is why it looks so similar to a Spyderco knife. However, in lieu of the iconic circular Spydie hole, Byrd knives include a comet-shaped thumb hole. The thumb hole is just as easy to engage with either hand.
The blade is complemented by the lightweight FRN handle in black. A bi-directional texture ensures a secure grip whichever way you hold it.
Phosphor bronze pivot washers facilitate smooth opening, and the mid-lock keeps the blade firmly in place.
Jimping along the spine and choil makes wielding the knife with greater control effortless. Balancing out this EDC is a four-position pocket clip that accommodates the preference of every user.
If you want a knife with exceptional value, the Byrd Cara Cara 2 is the obvious choice. The knife also comes in a few other iterations, including a version with a stainless steel handle and a version with a G-10 handle.
