A few weeks back, the knife world suffered a huge blow with the loss of legendary knifemaker Kit Carson. In honor of Kit, we’ve selected the CRKT M4-02 as the Badass Knife of the Week.
Although Kit Carson is probably best known for creating the revered M16 series with CRKT, the M4 had become Kit’s most consistent selling custom knife since 1990 and for good reason. The knife was a work of art.
To help bring the knife to the masses, Kit teamed up with CRKT for a production model of his knife. That’s where the CRKT M4-02 comes in.
This version of the M4 is smaller than the original and the perfect size for an everyday carry.
The knife has a nice 3.25-inch drop point blade made of 8Cr13MoV steel with a plain edge and a hollow grind. Featuring a bead-blasted finish, the blade locks into place using the patented LAWKS mechanism to prevent accidental closure when in use.
The version of the knife in the main image is the CRKT M4-02W, which is a deluxe model with handsome burled wood scales and stainless steel bolsters. You can also get the M4-02 with a white bone handle and black bolsters (see the image to the right) or the M4-02S with stag handles.
Since a knife is only as good as how fast you can deploy it, the M4-02 features the Outburst assisted opening mechanism that allows for quick one-handed opening when the ambidextrous thumb stud is pushed out.
Pay your respects to one of the greatest knifemakers with this classy knife.
