Watch 1000 Degree Knives Cut Through Things in Viral Videos

Meet the next internet obsession.

There’s no shortage of bizarre things on the internet that seem to take off out of nowhere, but the latest craze centers around knives.

Here’s how the latest knife-related internet sensation works: a knife is heated up to extreme temperatures with blowtorches and is then used to cut all types of objects. Seems simple (and kind of stupid, frankly) but there’s something oddly satisfying about watching a knife cut through objects like hot butter.

Now the knife community finally has some vindiction for all those times we’ve used a freshly sharpened knife to slice a tomato with minimal effort or shave armhair with a gentle sweep.

A growing number of YouTubers are now jumping on the bandwagon and experimenting with extremely hot knives, but the main ones seem to be from MrGear (in the video above) and Watch It Melt. For your viewing pleasure, the latter has made a half hour compilation of hot knives cutting through things.

An unbelievable amount of people are watching these videos (YouTube has been pushing these vids and sites like this have been spreading the word), but many of the videos have tens of millions of views.

For the knife people out there curious about the effects fire will have on knives, it will seriously mess up the heat treatment. I don’t recommend this at home, mainly because I don’t want anyone ruining their knives.

  1. What’s the purpose? Everyone knows what heat does to things, melts butter, plastic etc. These guys are just ruining their blades. Like looking down the barrel of gun to see what will happen when the trigger is pulled. The outcome is known!
