Victorinox Farmer – Badass Knife of the Week

Trying to find the perfect everyday carry is almost impossible, but if you had to pick just one knife to carry wherever you go, it might as well be the Victorinox Farmer.

This Swiss Army Knife has all the essentials you need — nothing more and nothing less.

The knife features nine functions. The main tool is the large blade, which opens up with the help of a nail nick and snaps into place with a slipjoint spring. A bottle opener and can opener sit on opposite ends and boast additional uses, including a wire stripper and two screwdrivers.

Gerber Prodigy – Badass Knife of the Week

A prodigy is a child or young person who is exceptionally good at something, a savant if you will. With that definition in mind, Prodigy perfectly fits as the name of our latest Badass Knife of the Week.

The Gerber Prodigy is based on the award-winning (and previous Badass Knife of the Week) LMF II but somehow manages to pack the same punch in a smaller package. The Prodigy features a very similar design and purpose as the LMF II, only thinned out to create a more versatile tool.

At a length of 4.75 inches, the blade of the Prodigy is only a few tenths of an inch shorter than the beefier LMF II. Where it cuts down on weight and size is the depth of the 420HC stainless steel blade. It is still durable enough to handle any task you throw at it but won’t keep you bogged down.

Cold Steel Tuff Lite – Badass Knife of the Week

Cold Steel is known for its humungous folding knives with blades stretching up to 6 inches long. But what if I told you one of Cold Steel’s best knives was a small folder with a cute little Wharncliffe blade.

That would be the Cold Steel Tuff Lite — the latest Badass Knife of the Week.

Cold Steel creates knives that are meant to be worked hard without fear of failure. Despite the Tuff Lite’s small size and stature, Cold Steel delivers.

The blade features a 2.5-inch blade made from Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel, an alloy known for its ease to sharpen and toughness. Using a classic Wharncliffe design, the blade has a straight edge and a point that can pierce. This underrated blade shape is deceptively versatile for everyday carry.

SOG Fielder – Badass Knife of the Week

It’s hard to get a visually appealing knife that’s both functional and ripe for everyday carry.

But somehow our Badass Knife of the Week walks that fine line.

The SOG Fielder had the potential to be a faceless 7.8-inch slab of stainless steel, but a vertical grain wood handle inlay breaks up the monotony to give the knife some personality and life.

The wood handle is sandwiched between two high luster stainless steel bolsters. The contrast is as good-looking as it is functional. The wood grain inlay feels good in the hand while the steel bolsters add some heft and durability to the handle.

If the wood grain handle just doesn’t do it for you, there’s also the SOG Fielder in G10, which transforms the whole personality of the knife.

The 2.875-inch blade has a versatile drop point design that works well in all types of situations. The blade engages quickly and smoothly with dual thumb studs for ambidextrous opening. Budget 8Cr14Mov stainless steel is easy to maintain and resists corrosion like it’s no one’s business.

Spyderco Persistence – Badass Knife of the Week

When Spyderco first released the Tenacious all those years ago, the knife world was shook. How could a company offer a knife whose value vastly outnumbered the cost?

Buoyed by the success of the Tenacious, the company released three more models in the budget folder family, including our latest Badass Knife of the Week, the Persistence.

The Persistence is another worthy entry into the budget line offered by Spyderco, proving once again that you don’t have to break the bank for a reliable everyday carry.

Unlike the larger Tenacious, the Persistence packs its value in a smaller package that is much more conducive to everyday life.

KA-BAR BK11 Becker Necker – Badass Knife of the Week

Ethan Becker is a savant whose knowledge and eye for design knows no bounds.

Becker, who underwent an extensive cooking apprenticeship early in life and later became the author of Joy of Cooking, founded Becker Knife & Tool in the early 1980s to create some of the best outdoor knives around. To say he succeeded undersells Becker’s achievement.

When he teamed up with KA-BAR to bring his knives to a wider public, people everywhere were able to experience the joy of Becker knives firsthand.

That’s the case with the KA-BAR BK11 Becker Necker.

Kershaw Brawler – Badass Knife of the Week

A brawl is defined by chaos and conflict. With the Kershaw Brawler, you get something that’s strong and reliable even when things get rough and unpredictable.

The heart of the Brawler is its blade. At 3 inches, the black-coated blade is a perfect size for everyday carry and doesn’t take up much space in the pocket. Although the 8Cr13MoV stainless steel is a budget steel, it performs well while boasting excellent rust resistance.

The Brawler’s modified tanto point is exceptionally versatile. Unlike the standard American tanto which features an abrupt angle toward the point, the Brawler’s profile has a more subtle curve. This gives the user more edge to cut in one long pull.

Boker Plus Exskelibur I – Badass Knife of the Week

Boker has released hundreds if not thousands of models over the past hundred years, but few have seen the success or critical acclaim as the Boker Plus Exskelibur line.

The Boker Plus Exskelibur I is a gentleman’s folder that pulls out all the stops. Along with using the best materials on the market, the knife features a simple design you wouldn’t be afraid to take to an office party or use out at the construction site.

The knife — designed by South African knifemaker Mike Skellern — boasts a long 3.5-inch blade made from high-quality CPM-S35VN stainless steel, an alloy known for its wear resistance, toughness, and increased ease of sharpening. The blade profile is a straightforward drop point design that performs well in nearly every way.

Adding to the intrigue of the folder is the unobtrusive front flipper. It takes a second to get used to it, but you’ll be wishing the flipper was so placed on every knife. A framelock mechanism keeps the blade securely engaged.
