Last week, we took a look at the new knives being released this year by CRKT, but this week, we’re looking at the new Buck knives of 2014.
Buck has always been a reliable name in the knife industry because they never rest on their laurels (and lord knows they can). Although Buck Knives didn’t do anything drastic this year, the new products are broadening their line of knives. In addition to the items below, there will be a few additions, redesigns and the commemorative edition of the 110 we told you about two weeks ago.
726 Mini SpitFire
The original SpitFire was introduced last year with enough success to prompt a smaller version for this year. The new lockback folder weighs 2.1 oz, as opposed to the original SpitFire’s weight of 3.2 oz. The anodized aluminum handle of the sleek knife comes in the three colors above. Like the original version, the Mini SpitFire’s blade is made of 420HC steel.
183 Alpha Crosslock
The Alpha Crosslock is not a new knife per se, but it underwent a drastic enough redesign to warrant a mention here. This knife has a spear point blade and saw blade with integrated gut hook, which makes it great for hunting. The alterations made to the Alpha Crosslock involve a more durable locking mechanism and more control when conditions are wet (since the original had aluminum grips). Available in orange and green.
830 Marksman
Next up is the 830 Marksman, which is billed as a heavy duty folder. Part of what gives this knife the heavy duty label is the Strong Lock System (SLS)—one of the strongest locking mechanisms out there. The Marksman is designed for tactical and survival situations, and the SLS gives the knife the strength of a fixed blade. It has a 3.5-inch blade.
021 Clearwater Bait Knife
Buck is continuing to fill out its Clearwater series of fishing tools with the Clearwater Bait Knife. The knife features a 5-inch, double-sided blade designed to cut bone, fins, cartilage, scales and nearly anything you can throw at it. The ergonomic handle features ridges for a tighter grip, and the knife also comes with a nylon sheath.
030 Splizzors
Ever wanted a set of pliers and scissors built into one tool? Now you’re got it with Buck’s Splizzors. The Splizzors is a useful multitool designed for fishing. It has replaceable blades and the micro serrations enable it to easily cut high performance fishing lines. But perhaps the best feature of the tool is the name. A sort of misspelled portmanteau of “scissors” and “pliers,” the Splizzors are frontrunners for greatest new product name of 2014.

Huge fan of the Buck brand, but the styling has always been a little ‘old fashioned’ for my personal tastes – so glad to see something like the Mini Spitfire above, gonna have to get my hands on one of these in 2014!

I’m a proud owner of Buck Alpha Hunter and always take it for my hunting trips. The new 726 Mini SpitFire looks very solid and with its dimensions would be a great backup knife for any hunter.
