And SOG said, “Let there be light.” And there was light from this week’s Badass Knife of the Week: the SOG BladeLight Camp.

The concept of lighted blades is not new, but SOG has quickly become the leader in lighted knives with its fantastic BladeLight Series that includes the BladeLight Fillet and BladeLight Tactical. Still, the SOG BladeLight Camp is the tour de force.

Before we get to any of the other specs, we must start at the six LED lights (three lights on each side of the blade) that give the knife its name. Why does a knife need a bright light on its blade? Any camper could give you an answer.

BladeLight SheathThe darkness of the great outdoors is all-consuming, making simple tasks like sharpening a stick for marshmallows or cutting food at night near impossible.

With the BladeLight Camp, you’ll never be caught in the dark without a light.

Even though the light with an output of 30 lumens is the feature you’ll notice first, the rest of the BladeLight Camp is equally impressive.

The 4.5-inch 8CR13MOV blade has a satin finish and a comfortable glass-reinforced nylon handle. The BladeLight also comes with a hard-molded nylon sheath, which won the 2014 BLADE Show “Accessory of the Year” award.

The next time you go camping, the BladeLight Camp should be a part of your regular arsenal of tools because you can never have too much light at night.
