In order to understand why the Boker Plus V-42 claims the title as this week’s Badass Knife of the Week, you first need a quick history lesson.

During the height of World War II in 1942, a scientist named Geoffrey Pyke had an idea to create an elite band of soldiers that could carry out covert missions and fight behind enemy lines in frigid conditions.

It took some time for the concept to come to fruition but eventually a group of American and Canadians soldiers was formed and called the 1st Special Service Force. Legend has it that German soldiers were so terrified of the special force that they referred to them as the “Black Devil,” which led to their nickname of the Devil’s Brigade.

V-42 BadgeThe group needed special weapons and gear to serve different purposes on various missions, which is where our badass knife comes in.

The V-42, which is a derivative of the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, was exclusively made for the Devil’s Brigade.

Designed with stealth and close-quarters combat in mind, the V-42 is a double-edge blade made of SK-5 carbon steel with black coating. The handle is made of compressed leather discs and features a pointed impact cap on the butt.

Another great aspect of the knife is that you get a part of history with each one you buy. The crest of the Special Forces of the U.S. Army is emblazoned on the blade and the knife comes with a replica of the cloth insignia of the unit and a sticker with the words “The worst is yet to come!” in German.

The force used to leave cards those cards behind enemy lines to lower the morale of the Germans. Is anything more badass than that?
