SOG Super Bowie – Badass Knife of the Week

The SOG Knife was designed by Benjamin Baker, the Deputy Chief of the U.S. Counterinsurgency Support Office. It had a stacked leather handle, an interesting clip point blade design, and a blackened blade to reduce glare.

Knife designer Spencer Frazer was so inspired by the original design that he created a company called SOG Specialty Knives based on the SOG Knife. What started out as a single commemorative model that paid tribute to the special ops that made it slowly turned into a larger knife company with dozens of models.

The SOG Super Bowie is one of the latest adaptations of the original SOG Bowie but with a larger format.

The precision-made clip point blade stretches 7.5 inches and made from functional AUS-8 stainless steel. Thanks to the hardcased black TiNi finish, the blade gets extra protection from the elements along with a reduction in the steel’s reflective properties during tactical applications.

The handle features the same classic and reliable stacked leather construction that provides comfort. Its hand guard and butt cap are both coated with black TiNi finish.

Finally, the leather sheath comes with a sharpening stone to keep the knife sharp and ready wherever you need it.

I don’t understand such a knife without sharpening both edges, top and bottom.

There can be legal issues with a double-sharpened blade. Many places consider that a “dagger” instead of a regular knife.

    • Also if you’re looking to do some light batonning in a survival pinch. That upper spine will do less havoc on your baton. I dig a double edge but this ones more of a survival / combat knife. I’m a Marine so I’m suppose to be preferential to my KaBar but this SOG super Bowie is so great in every way. Def a keeper.
