I’m the guy who put Benchmade in the federal stock system.
Got there first N.S.N. for the A.F.O. 9000SBT.
Did same at CAMILLUS with the 18-xray.
In Philadelphia they Glocks with switch, 1200
rounds a minute.
I never had a problem.
Sold over 100,000 units.

In reply to Peter Rusland. Changes in Canada???.Not likely. The Liberal Govt here cannot even get there gun laws straight. More of a penalty here for a switch Blade than carrying a gun. Agun is a restricted item . A switchblade is a prohibited item

The fact that I can walk around in my city with my concealed firearm, but I can’t with a knife 2.5 inches or longer or any switchblade is basically all you need to know about jackasses writing laws

Thanks for this article, Tim. I do agree with repealing these antiquated laws. You somehow missed a major point that switchblades can be viewed as a concealed weapon hence the ban thanks largely to gangster movies, fear of gangs etc. A couple more points: I am afraid many ‘switchblades’ — a sweeping name for automatics, OTFs and authentic switchblades — with mechanics to warrant the name — have no safety so the blade could open in one’s pocket and cause serious injury. The authentic Italian models and some other ‘modern’ switchblades do have a safety slide before one pushes the blade button. I recommend all knife makers simply install safeties on their automatic and switchblade models. The Kershaw Launch models are cool, but just recessing the blade button doesn’t cut it, safety-wise, for me. Still, the idea any knife, let alone a switchblade, is just a weapon is absurd since anything is a potential weapon: a legal hunting knife in a sheath, a rock, a hatchet, a Bic pen, a board. My weapon is calling police at 911. I, and most folks in the knife community, regard knives as tools. I’m not a knife-trained commando and sure would not want to live anywhere where I need a weapon during my daily life. Ultimately, let’s lobby to repeal these outdated laws, including those way up here in conservative Canada, and educate folks about knife use. Let us have our cutting tools and let the police deal with criminals that have many types of weapons, despite a switchblade ban.
