There may be some things not told in this story but “policies” are made and can be changed. I’ve had stores, etc. tell me it is their policy and I remark that policy is not law and there should be room for exceptions. It would be easy to toss a knife in a fellow student’s car, report them so you are not suspect and get someone is a lot of trouble.
