This article really bit them in the ass. Read all the comments below and totally agree. If the US manufacturers keep prices realistic, we’re all in. Otherwise, buy the knockoff and save some serious scratch.

I hear a lot of anger here. I can see the result of, and the practice of, communist techniques of information manipulation. It serves the same purpose for these governments if the knock off is made by a different government/country. The vitriol against Americans and America is the bottom line. There are 'real' concerns expressed here yet let us not forget the lessons of the failure of the Soviet Union. The wide spread lack of honest wages for honest work caused their disintegration. I agree this 'global economy' was forced on us. It was forced on us by the people we elected. I am a collector. I have a friend who gives me, from time to time, fake knives. I immediately purchase a genuine article from the company. In all cases the original is better made and performs better than the fake.

The transparency of the companies, Spyderco, Buck, CRKT and others that let you know they have knives 'imported' is a lot different from a company that will state that from the beginning that they are knock offs. That is the difference. If your knock off must sell as a trick by not admitting they are knock offs it should let you know they don't care if they lie to you. Caveat Emptor

Guess what hotshot.. my Ulephone armor 7 performs better than the cat or any of the other rugged phones that were on the market at the time for a quarter of the money.

And yeah.. I bought it from china. When America can compete in the "global trade" they wanted to push on us.. then I'll think about looking here for products. But as it stands they are kicking our lazy asses because this entire country has gone soft.

Our industries made china the powerhouse they are for better profit margins.. they asked for this. They got it.

And don't expect this administration to do a damn thing about it.. they are ALL bought and paid for by the same chicoms.

FACT!

In reply to <a href="https://blog.knife-depot.com/never-buy-counterfeit-knives/#comment-125139">What a joke!</a>.

100% correct.

The American knife companies took their product to china to have it manufactured CHEAPER.. to increase their profits.

I have several "clones" yup I bought them cheap, they work for what I need them for and no worse than the "quality" knives I paid much more for or the customs that I paid PREMIUM prices for.

If I am out on the ocean on a rough day fishing and I drop my 26 dollar DOC overboard because I have fish gack on my hands.. I am OK with that.. if it is a 500.00 knife.. not so much.
I'll add.. spyderco is the last company that should be bitching about anything, bought a brand new Manix.. 110.00.. had it for 3 months, I got out of atruck in a parking lot and it popped out of my pocket, fell about 8 feet, hit the concrete. Broke the end off the frame where the pivot pin was.

I wanted it fixed or replaced.. ya know what spyderco said?

GFY.. it was "abused"

Happy to see them getting beat in the market, wont ever touch their junk again.

question, i don’t mind dropping the 200 usd on a Spyderco or just as much on a Sog. i did come across quite a few eBay stores selling the particular knife i was purchasing from the companies site/ link. are these examples of counterfeit knives or simply a batch that failed inspection for whatever reason. the eBay store has the knives listed as NIB and Not counterfeits. please explain. i’M obviously willing to pay a few bucks less if the item is in fact genuine.

In reply to <a href="https://blog.knife-depot.com/never-buy-counterfeit-knives/#comment-96454">AmstaffK</a>.

I beg to differ with the OTF argument specifically (if it's a double action), but the push button automatics I agree with. Double Action OTF knives are only in tension when the slider is being moved. Essentially there is a plate that stretches a spring and unlocks a latch to move the knife. If the plate doesn't move, the spring isn't stretched, and thus it has an equal amount of force applied on either side. Even if the spring comes loose, the blade won't move, as the plate hasn't unlocked the locking mechanism, and the spring has lost all of its tension. If D/A OTF knives were more complicated I would agree, but because the design is so simple, I would trust most of cheap OTFs to do their job properly. Now single action OTF knives, and Pushbutton Automatics are different, as they are under spring tension constantly, and that tension is released at the push of a button. I would NOT want to have a poorly made S/A or Pushbutton auto in my pocket, as they generally have more force upon opening than other knives.
