My friends are always interested in what knife I'm carrying today and where do I buy my knifes. 90% of the time my answer is Knife Depot. One of the reasons I like
Knife Depot, they carry knives for beginners to collectors. Top names in the knifing business, guidelines on what to look for when buying a knife (good & bad) plus a guarantee.
Knife Depot will always be my first go-to when purchasing my knifes.

Let's not forget about legalities! If that switchblade that caught your eye is something you have to have consider if you will the implications of getting caught with a felony , especially if you live in California! Doing some time is different at different times in your life.... Trust me when I tell you,it pays to take a step back and consider all factors before making a purchase that you might PAY for later...
From one who knows!

Good article. I try to do a considerable amount of research on any major purchase although I also buy some knives on "face" alone. Collect 15-30 of a type then get attracted to something different and need another shelf. Beginning to think I should make a catalog so that my heirs will know what they are looking at.

An excellent article! I will give a label to a portion of your article. There are two kinds: Collectors and accumulators. If you are collecting for investment, again I agree that provenance is important but i would that materials are important also. Look for a newer knife maker that is getting his/her first break by a major company. I refer to use jade or other materials that are used on a knife that will have an increase in value. Some twenty years ago or so Buck came out with a 110 model embellished by Yellowhorse. As for accumulating...buy what pleases you to hold and compare to other knives. I have perhaps 70 trappers from a variety of factories. I take them out and polish them, sharpen them and it is relaxing, to me. They may have resale value for my grandson but that was not why I bought them.
