Most knife makers produce knives with a variety of blade steels -ProTech certainly does. Educate yourself on blade steel properties and then buy knives with blades that exhibit the traits you value. Don’t diss an entire brand because you made an uniformed choice.

Both are good, both have manual safeties if that is your bag. You cannot go wrong with either, however I would lean toward the non serrated claymore due to blade steel , ergonomics, and overall footprint/weight. Have both use claymore more often.

Having heard so much about Protech I zeroed in on the tr-5 as checking all the boxes for a robust EDC. Though very expensive it must be popular because finding one for sale was frustrating. While happy with the purchase I found the knife more combat oriented than functional as an EDC. My Kershaw Launch series and Piranha autos are better slicers and more useful in the kitchen or at camp. The Kershaw Launch-1 is even good for batoning kindling and best all-around though it is a handful. Just bought one for my son who is substantially bigger than me. Piranha X suits me better. For carrying in more sophisticated company I prefer Piranha Pocket, Benchmade Bugout or 940 as the Axis lock can not be beat for one hand deployment. Lots of good knives out there, but these are my choices.
